The Night Before · Rehearsal Dinner

December 28 — a river cruise
on the Chao Phraya.

The night before the wedding, we're taking everyone out on the water. Our rehearsal dinner is a two-hour private charter aboard the Thong Chao Phraya (by Khana Yacht Charter) — cruising the Chao Phraya River, Bangkok's main artery, gliding past temples, palaces and the city lighting up as the sun goes down. On board we'll be served a 9-dish Thai & International buffet. All wedding guests are invited.

We board and return at Tha Maharaj, a riverside pier right next to the Grand Palace. From there the boat cruises up to the Rama VIII Bridge and back down the river to Asiatique, before bringing us back to Tha Maharaj.

We depart at 4:45 PM — and the boat will not wait. Please aim to be at the pier by 4:30 PM. If you're not on board, it leaves without you, and there's no catching up with a boat in the middle of the river. The good news: there's a small indoor shopping mall on the dock, so if you're early you can grab a cold drink and wait in the air conditioning.

What to wear — comfortable clothing

No dressing up tonight — save that for the wedding. Wear something comfortable that you can walk around in and relax on a boat in, with comfortable shoes.

Late December is Bangkok's cool, dry season, but "cool" is relative: expect around 31–32°C (88–90°F) in the afternoon if you're sightseeing beforehand, dropping to roughly 25–27°C (77–81°F) on the river in the evening. The sun sets just before 6 PM, and with the breeze on the water it feels pleasant rather than hot. Light, breathable clothes are perfect — just bring a thin layer (a light shirt, cardigan or scarf) in case the breeze or the boat's air conditioning feels cool, plus sunscreen and sunglasses for the afternoon.

Getting there — take the subway

Traffic in this part of Bangkok will be bad in the late afternoon, and a taxi can easily take an hour. We strongly recommend the MRT (subway) instead — it's fast, cheap, air-conditioned and completely predictable.

From SO/ Bangkok, walk to MRT Lumphini just outside the hotel and take the Blue Line to Sanam Chai. It's about 15 minutes on the train. You can tap in with a contactless card or buy a token at the station.
From Sanam Chai, it's about a 20-minute walk to Tha Maharaj, past Wat Pho and the Grand Palace walls — or a 3-minute motorbike taxi (look for the drivers in orange vests, or book one on Grab).
Leave the hotel by 3:45 PM at the latest to be at the pier comfortably by 4:30. Better yet, come early and explore the area first — see below.

Bangkok's most famous sight and home of the Emerald Buddha. It's big and gets busy, so go early in the day — the ticket office closes mid-afternoon.

The giant 46-metre Reclining Buddha, plus one of the oldest Thai massage schools in the country. A massage here is a great way to spend an hour before the boat.

Bangkok's legendary backpacker street — street food, cheap massages, bars and people-watching. Wander over to Soi Rambuttri next door for a slightly calmer, leafier version.

A riverside drink

The cafés and rooftop bars along the river around Tha Tien look straight across at Wat Arun — a lovely spot to sit down and cool off if you've been walking all afternoon.

Temples — especially the Grand Palace — require covered shoulders and knees, so if you plan to visit, wear something that covers them or bring a light scarf or wrap. And allow plenty of time to get back to the pier for 4:30 PM.

New Year's Eve & Beyond

Ao Nang — the afterparty
goes to the beach.

Because one night of celebration clearly isn't enough — we're heading to Ao Nang, Krabi to ring in 2027, and you're all welcome to join.

We'll be flying down on December 31 on Thai AirAsia flight FD 4402 from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Krabi, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, and leaving on January 4. Feel free to grab a seat on the same flight — or head down a day early, on December 30, like some of you are planning to.

Most of the group will be staying together at our main hotel, Sea Seeker Krabi Resort. That said, there's no pressure at all: stay wherever suits you and your budget, and we'll all find each other on the beach anyway.

Everyone books their own hotel and flights for Krabi — we're not making any travel or room bookings on anyone's behalf, so please sort out your own.

We're putting together a few group activities for anyone who wants to join — a boat trip around the islands (we've booked a 60-person catamaran for January 1, 2–7 PM, about 60–85 USD per person depending on final numbers), a day trip to Railay Beach (a tiny car-free town famous for its climbing and towering limestone cliffs), and a scooter day exploring the coast. And of course, a New Year's Eve party to see 2027 in properly.

Everything is optional. Come to all of it, come to none of it, or spend the week horizontal on a beach chair — no itinerary, no obligations.

Please let us know as soon as you can if you're coming — we need numbers to lock in rooms and boats. A quick yes or no in your RSVP is all we need.

We've also put together a shared Google Sheet with an overview of when everyone is flying and where they're staying, plus flight options and the details for the hotel and activities. It's the best place to start if you're working out how to get there.

Please keep the Google Sheet updated with your travel plans — your flights, your hotel, and your arrival and departure dates. That way we can all find each other and plan things better.

Where exactly is the wedding?

At SO/ Bangkok, 2 North Sathorn Road, a 3-minute walk from MRT Lumphini. Everything happens up on the hotel's rooftop venue, Iris & Wild Iris, which spans the 29th and 30th floors and looks out over Lumpini Park and the skyline.

When does it start and end?

Tuesday, December 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 1:00 AM.

Where is the ceremony?

On the very top floor, the 30th floor, at Iris Terrace, the hotel's open-air rooftop terrace. That means the ceremony is outdoors. The reception starts up here too.

Will there be food and drinks before the ceremony?

Yes. There will be small bites and drinks on Iris Terrace (30th floor) before the ceremony, so come up, grab a glass and enjoy the view.

Where is the dinner?

After the ceremony we head one floor down to the 29th floor for dinner at Iris, the hotel's glasshouse restaurant. It's indoors, with AC.

And after dinner?

The party is outdoors. After dinner we head back outside onto the rooftop and dance until 1:00 AM.

Will it be hot outside?

Late December is Bangkok's cool, dry season. Expect around 25–27°C (77–81°F) in the evening, and the sun sets just before 6 PM. The ceremony and party are outdoors, but dinner is inside with AC if you need to cool down.

What should I wear?

Do kids stay free at SO/ Bangkok?

Tell me about the January 1 catamaran trip.

The one thing that's officially booked: a private 60-passenger power catamaran, the Omura, for the Krabi 4 Islands Sunset Program on January 1, 2–7 PM. We'll cruise the Krabi River, mangroves and Khao Khanab Nam, then Railay Bay, Chicken Island, Poda Island and Talay Waek — with a 45-minute snorkeling stop and kayaks on board.

The cost is 60–85 USD per person depending on final headcount, and dinner is included: welcome drink, Pad Thai with shrimp, baked shrimp, chicken BBQ, Thai desserts, passion fruit vanilla mousse, fresh fruit and water. Drinks are available at the onboard bar, or BYOB with a one-off 3,000 THB (~91 USD) corkage fee for the whole group. The National Park entrance fee and hotel transfers are not included in the price — but don't worry about the logistics: we'll arrange transportation to and from the catamaran from Sea Seeker Krabi Resort.

What should I budget for in Krabi?

Here's a rough per-person guide to the group activities. Only the catamaran is booked so far — the rest is still being arranged, so treat these as estimates:

Every activity is optional — you only pay for what you join. And remember, flights and hotel are your own bookings, so budget for those on top.

How do scooters work for the scooter day?

For the scooter day on January 2, we're pre-booking around 15–20 scooters for the group so nobody has to deal with rental hassle. The price will be shared and RSVPs collected in the Krabi WhatsApp group before we book.
